Saving The World With Mobile Phones

Sunday, May 25th, 2008

In recent years the issue of climate change and the damage we’re doing to the atmosphere has become a major issue. With particular focus on many of the technological advances that are harming our planet from Gas guzzling cars to leaving our mobile phone chargers plugged in. With many of us more concerned about how we can do our part to save the environment the manufacturers are being pressurised by organisations like Greenpeace to become “greener” and reduce the damage they’re doing to the planet.

Mobile phones are no exception to this effort, with everyone knowing about the radiation caused by phones, coupled with the fact that there are 50 million mobile handsets in use in the UK alone, that’s not far off the total population of 60.5 UK residents it all makes for a concern about how we can help cause less damage.

One of the solutions could be one of the many phone recycling schemes in place, mobile operator O2 now sends out prepaid recycling bags with their new handsets for contract customers to send their old mobiles back. Companies like FoneBak take old phones and are able to salvage components such as copper and gold in order for them to be melted down and reused. Some other companies and charities send old phones to developing countries.

This initiative is incredibly valuable considering that in the UK alone 1,712 mobiles are upgraded every hour, meaning that there are potentially 41,000 defunct handsets gathering dust in a desk drawer somewhere which could be put to good use. This waste is made all the more outstanding when they are designed to function for in excess of ten years, where we tend to begin lusting after the latest model after just 18 months.

Aside from recycling the mobile phones and donating them, this year a new exhibit at the London Science Museum showcased the possible future environmentally friendly applications of our old mobiles. One such suggestion was for mobile phone circuit boards to be replaced with sheets of lasagne or chicken feathers!

One stand out offering from researchers at Warwick University was a Motorola handset that included metals that broke themselves down for recycling and contained sunflower seed within the cover that meant when the mobile phone was no longer of any use it could simply be planted in the garden.

A company calling itself “Green Mobile” is a fledgling operator which will plant five trees for every mobile phone subscription, as well as donating 6% of its turnover to charities, as well as the option to keep your current mobile phone or one of their cheap, green mobile phones.

So whilst people are still coming round to taking steps towards being more environmentally friendly it’s clear that the mobile phone industry is taking steps towards being more eco-friendly for whenever the customer decides to “go green.”

Picking the Best MP3 and Ipod Speakers

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

IPod and other MP3 players have no speakers but using them with earbuds is a wonderful experience. These players have revolutionized people’s lives and created a whole new industry for companies. No longer do you have to fumble with cassettes, and cds since these players store everything in one unit.

But what if you want to use something other than ear buds or headphones. No manufacturer includes IPOD or MP3 player speakers with their units even though many people could use these items to listen to music. There are several companies in the marketplace that do make external devices for using your player and we cover them here.

One company makes a nice unit that serves as an alarm clock and MP3 player docking station. The unit fits all kinds of players with included adapters. The unit is able to ply the device as well as charge it. But the problem is that this needs AC power and plugs into a wall outlet making its portability rough. This unit is great for listening to your device in a room where you are but not convenient if you move around in your house or if you go away as you would have to pack it up to take with you.

One company has made a very interesting device that is a tripod mp3 player speaker setup. This is a cylindrical unit that opens up like a camera tripod to use as speakers for your device. The setup consists of three separate speakers each on one arm of the tripod legs. When opened, the speakers make a wonderful surround sound type of effect of the music off your player device. Fold up the unit and you have a round cylinder of speakers that push out the sound. Also what is amazing about these speakers is that it is strong enough to flip upside down and act as a stand for your IPOD or MP3 player.

Make Money From Forums

Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

If you have a website about a topic you enjoy, you can make money from discussion forums. Talk, post links to your site, get traffic. Traffic means money, right? If not, try different affiliate programs or Google Adwords. The worst sites should get a couple cents per visitor. Now here’s how to talk and make money.

Search “forum” plus the topic of your site on Google or Alta Vista. For my first site, I searched “backpacking + forum” and in the pages of results I found several good forums. I also searched related topics like “hiking” too. You can also check about.com, and other sites that have forums on many topics.

Registration is usually giving your email address and choosing a password. Some forums allow guests to post without registering. Once registered, browse the forum topics, and post a response to anything, just to “learn the ropes”.

Income From Discussion Forums

The point of posting in forums is to get readers to come to your web site. Sure it’s fun to give advice and discuss things of interest to you, but that’s secondary. With that in mind, do the following:

1. Always link to your site. If they don’t allow any links, find another forum.

2. Don’t “spam.” Sales pitches will be removed. Offer honest advice, or express an opinion, then sign off with your name and the link to your site.

3. Ask for help from others. This is an effective and acceptable way to “advertise.” Enter a topic like “Can I get some advice?” and post something like, “I just started a meditation site. If some of you would visit and tell me what you think, I’d really appreciate it.” Have a link to the site. People love to help, and to give opinions, and they’ll click on those ads while they’re at your site.

4. Look at total “views.” Many forums show the total times each “thread” has been viewed. When you see some with many more than others, get in on those, or start a new thread on the same topic. Go where the traffic is, and get some of it.

I didn’t like the idea of forums until I made a few posts, and saw my traffic and revenue climb for days afterwards. That convinced me. Just be polite, offer some value to others, and always have a link to your site. Many other secrets of using forums are covered in my newsletter, but this should be get you started. Talk and make money today.

All About DVD Writer Technology

Sunday, May 18th, 2008

In the world of data storage, DVD (Digital Versatile Disc or Digital Video Disc), holds a very important place. They are used for the storage of both video and data. Like CD or compact discs, D.V.D shares the same physical dimensions, yet its storage capacity is much higher. A DVD can store up to six times more data than a CD. This is one primary reason why DVDs are so popular today.

Just like a CD writer one can find D.V.D writers also. A Digital Video Disk writer is a drive that records or writes onto blank DVDs. It can burn movies or data onto a blank D.V.D, and in some cases it can also overwrite existing data (DVD-RW). While a DVD-Rom only reads and cannot write, a Digital Video Disc writer can do both. With the help of DigitalVD writers, one can make their own movie discs. A DigitalVD writer can help in reducing the cost of home theatre production. In the past, you would have had to hire a production company to make home video. Now, you can burn it yourself onto Digital Video Disc!

Internal and external are two types of hardware that writers are available in. The difference is simply that internal drives can be mounted directly into your desktop tower chasis. External drives cannot, however they are more transportable and can be moved quickly from one computer to another. The internal writers are usually less expensive.

There are four different DVD speeds, namely CAV, CLV, PCAV, and ZCLV. In CAV or constant angular velocity, the Digital Video Disc is written at a constant increasing speed. In CLV or constant linear velocity, the Digital Video Disc is written at a constant speed. In zone constant linear velocity or ZCLV, the disk is divided into various zones and the speed is increased after each zone is written. While a Digital Video Disc is being written, the speed increases to some maxmimum after which it levels out. This is what happens when PCAV or Partial Constant Angular Velocity takes place. The average speed to write any type of media is presently 16x. The average speed for rewrite is 4x.

A DVD writer uses various kinds of interfaces like SCSI, IDE FireWire and USB. An internal writer generally supports IDE interface compatibility. While external products may require some other kind of interface. External models most commonly use Firewire, which is fitted in the PCI slot of a computer. But now-a-days more and more Digital Video Disc writers are using USB 2.0 that offer speeds up to 480Mbps.

In order to install a DVD writer, a minimum configured system is required. If you are choosing to create an image of a disk onto your hard drive, you will need at least 4.7GB of hard drive space free to do it. That will be twice as much for a dual layer Digital Video Disc.

All About Multifunction Printers, Scanners And Copiers

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

Multifunction printers are the best for small offices and or the home. It is a real miracle - one unit that prints, copies and scans. It saves on space and money. One point has to be kept in mind that it does all these functions but not all of them well. If the requirement is for high grade scanning then this three-in-one model might prove to be inadequate. It is all right for moderate use and not for intensive application.

As regards the speed the printer might prove to be too slow for professional use. This is especially so in the case of colour printers. While using a multifunction printer and trying to get some fast assignment completed then the rate of 22 pages per minute as against the crawl of 12 pages per minute does matter.

Multifunction printers that have more memory turn out to be more costly. This inadequacy becomes apparent when one tries to do three things together - scanning, printing and copying. If the requirement is heavy then it is best to opt for a multifunction printer that has 16 MB - to say the least.

The quality of the image depends on DPI or dots per inch. The standard (600×600) will suffice for printing but is unsuitable as regards quality of photo. Scanner resolutions must be noticed, as these are usually low in multifunction models. There is a wide gap as regards quality between interpolated and optimal resolution.

Multifunction printers that have to be fed with one page at a time can become a real headache and eat up the whole day. It is best to buy a multifunction printer that is fitted with a document feeder system that is automatic and at each go holds 15 sheets at the minimum.

It is advisable not to just pick a multipurpose printer off the store shelf, have it packed, pay and walk off with it. Always play around with it in the store giving a good amount of time and attention. Carefully scrutinize the specifications and see how the printer actually behaves when put to the test. Each operation should be tested separately. After all it must meet the specific requirements of the buyer - no matter how small it is.

Most of the multifunction printers are manufactured with the prime function of photographic output. But being three-in-one the other utilities are kept in mind.

The scanner function is of great importance. There are two main types technologies involved in manufacture of scanners. CCD or charge-coupled-device performs better as regards quality of image especially when dealing with books. On the other hand the other technology of CIS or contact-image-sensor makes the machine more durable. Other points to consider are sheet-fed versus flat-bed machines.

The flat-bed ones allow scanning of thicker objects. Try to include in the purchase package an OCR or optical-character-recognition. It converts the pages that are scanned into text documents that can be edited. This will save a lot of time - running into hours - if the original soft copy is misplaced. For those who want to store old photographs purchase with this multipurpose printer attachments that will enable scanning of slides and films.

The speed of making copies can never be up to the mark unless the unit has these gizmos. Always bear in mind that documents have to be lifted and replaced innumerable times. Apart from speed other areas of importance are user friendliness and storage of memory. But with all the attachments included it will be child`s play to manage multiple copies; only few buttons will have to be pressed.

How to Buy a HDD Player Online

Thursday, May 15th, 2008

With so many information and entertainment now available online, it’s quite hard to delete those information in our hard drives once we reach their maximum capacity. We used to be content with 20GB of hard disk capacity and we even used to brag that we have a 40GB hard disk capacity. But now, 40GB is almost nothing if you’re a movie, music or TV fan. Although you can burn all your favorite shows on your CDs, it’s still better to have them all in your computer.

If you’re still clinging to your 20GB laptop or have just bought that cool ASUS EEE PC with less than 10GB hard disk capacity, you might need to purchase a HDD Player and a hard disk drive to upgrade the storage capacity.

HDD Players are small boxes big enough for one hard disk. Sitting outside the computer or a laptop, it has the capacity to read the hard disk in your computer. Connecting this gadget to the computer or laptop is really easy since it uses USB 2.0. Depending on your budget there are different types of players to choose from. The only common thing about these gadgets is that it connects to computers via USB and it can store files.

The basic form of HDD Players allows you to store files only. That’s the most bareback of all products. Although some may come in fancy design, it’s just another storage device. But there are those models that upgrade a hard disk to the next level. Instead of reading the contents of the hard disk, the player comes with complete connectors to your television. The result is, you have a media player that reads hard disks. Last but not the least is your ultimate mobile hard disk players. This type of player comes with a screen that lets you watch movies and even listen to music. Some sell this as a photobank, but it is much, much more.

With hundreds of HDD players on the market, finding the one that meets your needs can be a confusing and daunting experience. So we’re here to help you simplify the process.

Here are 4 tips for your buying a HDD Player:

  1. Check the capacity of the player. Unfortunately, a HDD Media Player will always have a limit. Don’t just buy something online if they do not indicate its capacity. Usually their capacity could be from 80GB up to 600GB or even more. The higher the price, the bigger its capacity.

  2. Check the file format that the player support. Usually, a HDD Multimedia Player can support VCD, DVD, MPEG1/2/4, DIVX3.X-5.X, AVI, ASF, VOB, DAT, MP4, MPG, PEG, BMP, GIF and MP3.

  3. If possible, purchase an player with a built-in hard disk - although this is rare, it certainly beats the trouble of inserting the hard disk inside your player. You don’t even have to worry about format since usually they are already formatted to be read.

  4. Compare the prices of different suppliers’ offer, then get the player with multifunction but the lowest price.

Shopping for a HDD Player can be easier with the help of Sourcingmap.com, it offers a wide range of high quality Hard Media Players at wholesale prices.

An Amazingly Easy Way Teen Bloggers Can Make Money Every Time Someone Visits Their Blog

Monday, May 12th, 2008

Back to school doesn’t have to mean empty pockets for teens. In fact, just because a new school year has begun, doesn’t necessarily tranlate into putting an end to the money that you may have made during the summer vacation. Smart teens know that there are a lot of things that they can do to keep the money rolling in without it taking too much time away from their studies.

One of the best ways that a teen can make money is with blogging. Not only can blogging be a fun way to keep in touch with friends, it’s a great way to make extra money for the stuff you need. Millions of teens already have a blog. Not only that, but blogging offers a great way to express your opinions on a number of issues. And when you consider that some of the biggest bloggers make over a thousand dollars a week - starting a blog of your own is an excellent way to fill your pocket with the money you need.

One way in which many teens get started in blogging is by opening an account at Blogger, a website owned by Google. Once a teen has opened a free account you can publish your blog and give the web address to all of your friends. Anyone and everyone can view your blog. This is the first step to start earning money fast.

However, for some teens, one of the biggest drawbacks to making money with a blog is not knowing what to write. Well, recently I discovered an amazingly easy way to add content to my blogs without ever having to write a word. Not only that, I can make money every time someone visits my blog! The method involves adding content to your site which, when someone visits your blog, you get paid. Although methods similar to this - such as google adsense program, have been around for years, there are other programs on the net that don’t involve clicking on advertisements such as with adsense.

I discuss this and many methods on my Teen Money Making Site. But no matter what methods you use to monetize your blog, it’s important that you also spend some time driving traffic to it. Because it doesn’t matter how good your content is, without traffic, you won’t make any money - even with the method I mentioned above. Of course if you have lots of friends, you can pass out the url for your blog to your friends. And if you have a myspace page, you should definitely post it there.

Blogging has made success stories out of a lot of teens. One 13-year-old brings in over a thousand dollars a month from his blog. By starting a blog, the possibilities are limitless. Whatever you do, enjoy making your blog. But most of all, dare to dream because the sky’s the limit. If a 13 year old can rake in more a thousand dollars a month, so can you!

Learn the method I discovered recently for the Embarassingly Simple Way To Make Money EVERY SINGLE TIME Someone Visits Your Blog! Guaranteed. At TeenMoneyMakingIdeas.Com, I teach you all the way that teen bloggers can make money fast!
